It’s analysis week here on the ranch.
I watched the V.P. debate last night, even though there’s no way I will ever vote for John McCain or Barack Obama because of their willingness to rape my wallet to score political points while telling me they’re saving me. But I was interested to see how it went.
Until I realized that the debate was total bullshit. Two people stood up there and talked about two other people for an hour and a half, and lied about pretty much everything the entire time.
What’s really disheartening is that there are people who watched and thought someone “won” the debate. The fact of the matter is that regardless of who won the debate, we the people of the United States are going to be the big losers after this election.
And to compound that, people who consider themselves educated actually think someone who will be president, whether that someone has a (D) or a (R) next to his name, will be worthy of the title. Goes to show you that even the educated are idiots.
If the weakness of our presidential (and vice presidential) timber weren’t so maddeningly frustrating it’d be sorrowfully depressing.
P.S. Regardless of all the bullshit she spun, Sarah Palin did not come off as a blubber eating eskimo idiot last night, which makes me believe that the interviews she did with Katie Couric (and to a lesser extent Charlie Gibson) were edited to make her appear as such. Shocking.
I watched too, and my take on the Couric/Gibson thing was that it gave her handlers some tips on how to help her present herself better next time. I found her maddeningly manipulative this time, with droppin’ her g’s winking at the audience. I think she was nervous. You could see those fringey bangs shaking. I still think she’s in way over her head.
Uh no Palin really is a blubbering idiot. Her coach deserves an oscar though. She came off as folksy, dumb and untrustworthy. But knowing you all you care about is how “hot” she is. You wanna bang that VPILF, dontcha Joe sixpack?
Geez, you’re really mainlining that Obama kool-aid, aren’t you?
Here’s the big question: do you think she’s a maverick?
She’s certainly done some unconventional things as governor of Alaska, so locally I think she is somewhat maverick-y. Could she go against the grain the way she has in her state on the national level, as a vice-president? Highly doubtful, especially since she wouldn’t have the opportunity due to the limitations of the office (there’s never going to be a VP as powerful as Cheney again). Could she if she stepped in as president if McCain died in office? I definitely doubt it.
On the other hand, there’s no one on the democratic side who has even come close to straying off the straight and narrow partisan path. So if you want change and you’re voting democrat you’re just fooling yourself.
The truth is, no matter who wins nothing’s going to change. The world will tell us how much it likes us now while screwing us behind our back as much as possible, and the president has very little ability to actually change the course of things like the economy. And both candidates are completely unrealistic in making their endless promises for more entitlements and (supposedly) lower taxes while advocating a $700 billion advance on the backs of future generations with no way to pay it off.
Any politician who supported the bailout is immediately disqualified as competent to run the country, in my opinion. That knocks out both sides of this campaign.
