I get a lot of flack from all quarters, foreign and domestic, all the time. I’m too outspoken, too un-P.C., too much of an independent thinker (i.e., conservative), too aloof, too brash, too unfiltered, too snobby, too opinionated, too assholish, too much of a loner, too imtimidating, too hard to be friends with, too this, too that, too the other, and nothing ever seems to be too positive when it’s me being described.
Then I get a letter from school that says my son is going into the gifted and talented program next year for all four of the subjects they were reviewing him for inclusion (language arts, math, science, social studies), and at the last parent conference for the year at my daughter’s pre-school I’m asked if I’d be ok with her skipping a year because she’s so far and away ahead of all other kids her age in that school.
So to all the people (online and off, near and far) who think I’m what’s wrong with this world, just know that I look at my children and understand I’m doing everything pretty right in life and you can suck it.
